Free eBook of the day - “COM and .NET Interoperability” (Yeah, it’s 7 years old but if you need it then you need it… ;)
The ServerSide.Net - Enterprise .NET Community: Free Book: COM and .NET Interoperability
“Apress Publishing has provided TheServerSide.NET with COM and .NET Interoperability for free download.
"COM and .NET Interoperability" covers working with COM components in .NET and .NET components in COM from basic topics like Runtime Callable Wrappers to advanced topics such as manual marshaling of data types between .NET and COM. This book is available in its entirety as a download to registered TSS.NET readers.
The book starts off with an introduction/review of COM concepts such as IUnknown, IClassFactory, and IDispatch interfaces as well as Active Template Library and IDL.
…
The book moves on to cover the basics of .NET to COM interoperability before building on that with more advanced topics such as handling Variants and manually destroying a COM object.

The world is a funny place. I was looking from a COM <-> .NET book just yesterday, having a VB6 project where I need to call a .Net library, one that wasn’t created with COM in mind. The local book store didn’t have any and I while I have a number of sites the cover the topic, I really wanted a book to get the zen of it (and for the depth books usually provide, etc). I was about to bite the bullet and Amazon it overnight, or more likely, do without.
Then today I find this free ebook… Sure the book it a little dated, but in quickly reviewing it it seems to have just the stuff I need.
MAN I love the Internet! ;)
