I've been actively blogging for two years, with 1264 posts, as of today...
What have I learned in that time?
1) You have to blog for YOU.
2) Telling your wife that no more kittens are allowed, only encourages her.
3) No longer providing day to day support for your now masters degree bound daughter is actually seems to be more expensive...
4) There is no version 2.x. Only version 1+++++++
5) Some people are way to passionate about "their" web browser
6) VB6 deserves its retirement. It has done its job and done it well. Now it's time we all let it go...
7) If you, web site, don't have a syndication feed I just won't find the time to visit you very often
8) Telling a kitten no, only encourages it.
9) The internal RSS wave is coming.
10) Open communication requires a great deal of bravery and resolve (i.e. MS's new blogging push... see the IEBlog as as example)
11) There's nothing you can do about smack-tards. Dissenting opinions are one thing. But personal attacks or senseless flames have no value and are just wrong.
12) Scaling out is hard (unless it's a waistline)
13) Just do it. Bitching and moaning about an issue will only get you so far (if anywhere). If you have the power to change something you do not like, then do it. Change what you can, accept if if you can't (while taking steps to enable you to change it in the future).
14) Love your family. Time is fleeting...
I'm sure I've learned a few more life lessons than that in the last two years, but without my morning coffee my brain's output procedures are just not working up to speed.
Take care,
Greg
