Microsoft Fix It For Me gets even better, now with “Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Services” (aka. Just make my darn Aero/CD/DVD/Printer/Device/Audio work service…)

The Operations Manager Support Team Blog - Announcing Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Services 1.0

“… Anyway, a few days ago we launched the Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting Services where with one click we can detect problems on your machine and automatically fix any common problems that are found.  I know just about all of you reading this are computer experts and can fix these types of issues faster than you can run a wizard but if you’re like me, there’s always a friend or coworker (or parent) somewhere needing this kind of stuff fixed and if so maybe you can forward this along and save yourself some time.

Some of the major features include:

  • Launches Vista self-help scripted diagnostics from the web.
  • Displays web content dynamically according to the OS
  • Installs PowerShell automatically
  • Uses smart analytics and interactive diagnosis to determine the exact issue.
  • Applies the resolution
  • Verifies the resolution by re-running issue detection
  • Displays information regarding fix status
  • Provides next steps if unable to resolve issue.

You can try it yourself here but I have a couple screen shots below that walk through the basic process:

Hum… I’m going to give the Devices a try. I have an old as dirt web cam that works on XP, but even with the updated drivers, doesn’t on Vista. Let’s see if this helps (it sure can’t hurt… much… I hope…lol ;)
