The Verge - Play this: 'Battlefield 1942' for free through Origin
"To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Battlefield 1942, Electronic Arts is now offering the classic first-person shooter for free through its Origin service. Taking place during the events of World War II, this digital version includes online multiplayer with and against others who have downloaded the game. Unfortunately, existing expansion packs are not included and compatibility with older mods is not guaranteed ...As an added bonus, EA is also offering a free electronic art booklet that features concept designs that the development team used more than a decade ago."
I upgraded a PC so I could play this game way back when... My fav though was the Desert Storm mod (which might not work). Anyway, free is free (though reg-ware, as you can expect since you need to use Origin to get it, which requires you to register and all that...)
