Last Day...
Last day's are always interesting. The run up from turning in your two week notice, the spike of transitioning everything and then the run down to your final work hours can be interesting and bitter sweet.
if you haven't guessed yet, today's my last day with my current employer. I've been in the same building for 13 years now, on the same project for 11 and with the same company for 10. I've been in a fairly unique position where I was able to take a product line from inception to retirement, while helping birth its replacement. Also I've seen some amazing growth in my business segment, where when we started the project there was no such thing as "EDD" or "ESI" whereas now it's everything (in the litigation part of the world at least). We've gone for a paper on glass world were scanners and printing were king to today, where it's all electronic data. I've been in a great position, in the right place, at the right time, where I helped my company in that transition, providing a product that started as a proof of concept to one that helps keep the lights on. And along the way meeting a number of interesting people, many of which I am still in contact with today...
Now though I move on to another company, a small private firm that's young, vibrant and has a will and drive to grow and cut out a segment for the market for itself. With a opportunity that could be another position of a lifetime. Who cool is that?
Am I a little scared changing jobs after being in one place for so long? Where now I'm the new guy and have to prove myself again. Oh yeah, you bet.
Am I excited that I get to start fresh and help build something new and exciting? Oh yeah!!! :)
The thing to remember is that a "last day" is really just the day before a "first day" and the start of a whole new adventure...

Congrats on the new position - what's the company?
@David, Thanks! I'm off to join ProSearch Strategies
Greg,
Congrats on the new gig and I wish you much success in your new adventure. I am not sure if this blog was personal or part of your now previous employment, I assume the later. I want to thank you for the years of great information. This is/was one of the few blogs that I actually subscribed through RSS and looked forward to every new posting.
Perhaps we will run into each other during the SoCal code camps (just a few weeks away for the USC one) and since I always volunteer, perhaps I will be able to thank you personally.
Regards,
Mark
@Mark H.
Thanks! I'm hoping to go to the Code Camp at USC, but we'll see. That's after my first week at the new gig and I might need the weekend to decompress (or bust my butt to learn something new... lol)
And thanks for the comment and support. Yep, this is my non-work personal/professional blog (no company owns the content, it's all me! :) so I hope to keep driving on with it. The new place supports me in my efforts, so I'll hopefully be good to go (when I find the time of course... maybe on my new train ride commute rides :)
Thanks again!
Big change! Congratulations and best of luck Greg!
