WixTrim - WiX Designer (with C# 2 Source)

GotDotNet - GotDotNet User Sample: WixTrim - WiX Designer

"WixTrim is a Windows Installer XML (WiX) File Visual Editor. It enables visual dialog template editing, supports features, components, actions, properties and other MSI elements."

I’ve had it in the back of my mind (which is a pretty cluttered space, as you might guess) that I want to check out WiX.

When I DO get around to it, I’ll want to check this out.

Note To Self: Find (here?) and download SandDock. There’s a reference in the project and it obviously won’t compile without it...

Update #1 06/21/2008:
Gotdotnet is now gone, but you can find the project here, http://sourceforge.net/projects/wixtrim/ and run/install it (via clickonce) from here, http://wixtrim.com/

Hey Greg - Did you find a copy of SandDock (that doesn't expire in 30 days)? I was interested in this project too, but my old, totally free SandDock won't work with it. Bummer.

Cheers,

Thomas

Nope, not yet... (heck you're ahead of me in that I don't even have the original free version! ;)

But based on my googling (here's one result http://community.divelements.co.uk/CS/forums/10136/ShowPost.aspx) it looks like buying it is the only legal solution (or re-writing the app to not use SandDock).

sigh...

Dear Thomas and Greg,

I am an author of the WixTrim. If you guys are so much interested in this project, I could try replacing the SandDock with something "cheaper". What do you say?

Best Regards,
Oleg

I think it would help...

You're fast action on updating the original post, adding the binaries went a long way to help others (like me) check out the great work you've done.

I think using another (cheaper/free) docking/UI library would help even more people...

But you're also working this project for free and being cool enough to post it for the world to see. Meaning you do what works best for you. If the "world" doesn't like it, they can deal with it, make the change themselves or contribute/donate time and or money to your effort.

Free (as in beer) still means someone has to pay for time and effort to brew it (so you brew your beer any darn way you want too! ;)

LOL, sorry I got a little wound upthere...

In the end, IHMO, I think it would lower any entry barriers if you do replace SandDock...

BTW, again I want to say you've done some great work on this project and to thank you for posting it.

Dear Greg,

Do you know any Tabbed MDI I could use in the WixTrim? I couldn't find anything better yet cheaper than SandDock. I think I will leave it as is.

Check out
(http://coolthingoftheday.blogspot.com/2006/03/dock-panel-suite-public-domain-vs-like.html) (aka http://sourceforge.net/projects/dockpanelsuite/ )

This is an OSS Docking Suite that might help...
