A new PowerPoint, same as the old PowerPoint… But cooler with pptPlex (Think “Zooming through your Presentation” or “Goodbye to Slide Shows, Hello Zoom Shows”)

Microsoft Office LabspptPlex

“pptPlex is a plug-in that explores an alternate method for presenting a PowerPoint slide deck. Using pptPlex, you can present your slides as a tour through a zoomable canvas instead of a series of linear slides.

//steve clayton: geek in disguiseMicrosoft OfficeLabs releases pptPlex

“Wow the OfficeLabs guys are on a good run of late. Hot on the heels of SpeedLaunch they released pptPlex today.

Taking inspiration from the Plex technology used in the Bill Gates’s TouchWall demonstration at the CEO Summit, OfficeLabs have created a prototype that allows people to have similar zooming capabilities using Office PowerPoint 2007. With pptPlex you can show slides on a zoomable canvas moving around the canvas to show groups of slides, individual slides, or zoom in to display a particular section of a slide. Cool….off to play!

[update] WOW!!!!!!!!! I played and I LOVE IT – this is the biggest PowerPoint revolution in a long time.” [Post leached in full]

This is officially cool looking. With the right usage (too much is as bad of course) this could really jazz up your presentations. It seems, based on the video, that this could be a great way to break out of the slide show metaphor and into a truer knowledge transfer mechanism.

LOL.. Enough buzz words there?

Okay I think it could help presenters avoid the boring slide show daze and glaze (you’ve seen them, the glazed over, dazed expressions of some of your viewers, no matter how hard you try to engage them?) and help the them provide their stuff in a more interactive way, while providing the viewer with a better chance to retain said stuff.

Please note that this only works with PowerPoint 2007…

I played with it for a while and liked it a lot. Much smoother than the old "next slide... bullet points... next slide..." routine.

Cool, I do this all the time in Apple's Keynote, and it wows people, along with a lot of their other transitions; nice that I can now do it in those rare occasions I use Power Point.
