My New Zip Utility of Choice: BigSpeed Zipper

BigSpeed Zipper - Swiss Army Knife for zip files

I think I've found my new free zip utility...

To date, I've been using UltimateZip and have been somewhat happy with it. But the start up nag always bugged me and I have had some usability and speed issues.

In looking at the UltimateZip site, I now see that I'm a couple versions behind... Okay, that might help, except that in looking at the FAQ, it looks like to be 100% legal, I'd need to purchase it (for some reason I thought it was free - free... wasn't it at one point?). So if I need to purchase a zip utility, I'd just buy Winzip.

Today I came across BigSpeed Zipper. First it appears to be no nag, free - free (they appear to be selling their zip engine OCX/DLL, the GUI is their sales tool). Second it feels FAST. Loads fast and unzips fast. It uses a dual explorer view that takes a second to get used to, but I like it.

I've uninstalled UltimateZip so I'll see pretty quick...

I've been really happy using IZarc. It handles something like 40 different compressed formats and is free with a great interface.

That looks pretty darn cool too. The tons of supported compression formats is very cool.

Installing now.

Thanks for the tip.
