My blog made a local newspaper...

Ventura County goes Blog Wild

How cool. My blog, among others, was profiled in the VCReporter.

In the cover article at that! :)

Good article Molly (and team), thank you...

Update #1: The article has been moved off the feature page (as you would expect). In the short term, here's the google cached version of the article...

Blogging Hiatus for PDC

FYI…

I’ll be at MS’s PDC for the next six days, so posts will be limited and/or focused on PDC related topics (i.e. there’s about no chance in hell for me to keep up on all my web feeds, so it’ll be PDC posts or nothing… probably ;)

I don’t plan on “live” PDC posts, as I’m sure there will be about a billion or more PDC’ers ahead of me, but if I see or hear anything cool I’ll try to post notes.

See you there…

VB.NET DLL Wrapper For C MAPIEx Extended MAPI

The Code Project - VB.NET wrapper for DLL of C MAPIEx Extended MAPI - VB.NET

"Since first encountering the 'Outlook Security Update', which has mangled many an important production VB program, I've wished for a better way to work around it in VB.

Sadly, there is still not a functional, direct VB way around that travesty. But programs can be brought back online in an 'Updated' Outlook environment with P/Invoke wrapping a DLL written in C++ to access the Extended MAPI calls.

The attached source is a wrapper to call the MAPIEx.dll library written by Noel Dillabough (as per the 08/25/2005 update to Noel's CMAPIEx article...which was posted but pending update as of this writing). The DLL must either be registered or in the working directory for this VB program to work."

One of these days I'll be needing Extended MAPI interface, preferable via VB.Net... While I really like Outlook Redemption, I'd rather not have to play in the COM world when I move to/rewrite in .Net.

Extended MAPI is much harder to use than OOM, CDO or Outlook Redemption, but you get so much closer to the raw data... In the last few years, as my EDD apps have matured, I've been moving closer and closer to ExMAPI. Now I get by with a mix of CDO, OOM, Redemption and ExMAPI, which just makes me crazy. I think it might be worth the effort to dive all the wave into the ExMAPI pool.

We'll see...

MSN Messenger Activity SDK Download

Download details: MSN Messenger Activity SDK

"Get state-of-the-art information about building applications for MSN Messenger. The MSN Messenger Activity API gives you innovative tools to build applications that integrate with MSN Messenger and reach millions of users worldwide"

Well okay then... Looks like the MSN IM SDK is out now... ;)

From the CHM in the SDK:
"MSN® Messenger Activity API allows developers to build applications that take advantage of the multiuser communication functionality provided by MSN Messenger. Developers can design applications using this simplified connection model.

The application in the Activity window is a Web page that interacts with MSN Messenger through the application programming interface that is defined in this software development kit. Your Web page can provide any functionality that can be present in a normal Web page.

You start an Activity from either the Games or Activities button that appears on the toolbar of the Conversation window in MSN Messenger version 7.0 (and later). ..."

The SDK includes the CHM and one simple Tic-Tac-Toe sample Activity.

So in the end, DotMSN appears to be safe and still very valid...

Interesting. Looks like the officially supported MSN IM API is out Monday. Here's what sounds like a related PDC session...

"MSN Messenger: Extending MSN Messenger with Multi-Person Instant Messaging Applications"
"This session covers the architecture and design of multi-person IM applications within MSN Messenger using the Messenger Activity API. We show how to use the peer-to-peer capabilities of the Activity API to build multi-user IM applications that can send files, instant messages, data, and integrate with other services. Build your IM applications to work with MSN Messenger, the world's largest instant messaging service with more than 165 million customers worldwide."

Mouse Wheel for Visual Basic 6.0 IDE Update

Mouse wheel events do not work in the Visual Basic 6.0 IDE

The Mouse Wheel add-in for the VB6 IDE has been updated and released.

Yeah, I know this add-in has been blogged about before, but what I didn't know and think is cool, is that the current maintainer blog's about his work on it.

For example, here's the blog post that prompted the release of this latest version, More updates for the VB6/VBA mouse wheel fix.

Also I didn't realize that the source is included with the add-in (you can tell I've never downloaded/used it before can't you?).

Since I'm sure to have a few more years left in VB6 (no matter how hard I fight to move everything to VB8[aka VB.Net 2, aka VS 2005, aka .Net Framework 2.0, etc, etc]), this might come in handy.

Joel Semeniuk Dives into Team System, "How it is used in the real world..."

Download details: Joel Semeniuk Dives into Team System

"Joel Semeniuk gets us deeper into Visual Studio Team System by taking us step by step through the process of how it is used in the real world. For introductory information about Visual Studio Team System, see show #117."

I plan on attending a couple VSTS sessions during PDC (including the pre-conference "Software Development with Visual Studio Team System" session) but this download still sounds interesting...

I like "real world" since that's were I usually live.... ;)

Ill tell you what...

I’ll tell you what…

I’ll not only donate the entire amount of my next Ad Sense check (which I’m still 12% away from hitting the $100 minimum payment amount), but I’ll also match it in total with my own funds. So if I get a check from Google for $101, I’ll donate $202... etc, etc.

There are a number of other bloggers in my blogroll who are also doing what they can to help. Please visit them as well to take part in their efforts.
