[Personal] Goodbye Buddy....

Last night we had to say goodbye to one of our cats, Buddy.

It was pretty clear he started feeling icky this weekend and was getting worse, so I took him to the vet last night. A few hours later, they called and said he his condition was getting worse, that the prognoses for recovery wasn't good and that he might not last the night and was in pain.

So we went to the vet and said goodbye as they put him to sleep.

Poor guy... But for the last year he was with a loving family, in a safe and friendly environment and was well loved and taken care of.

We rescued him after he was abandoned by his previous humans (that I'm ashamed to say were family by marriage). He'd been living under a car in the backyard of a house that was about to be sold, and we later found out had been living there for 6 months or so. When we found out he was still there (we kind of assumed the cat accompanied the owner... we should have known...sigh... long story) we went to check on him. And after seeing his living conditions and his state we made the call and adopted him.

We had/have four cats already, but there was no way knowing what we now knew we could stand by and not do something. (Don't get me started... I still get pissed when I think about it)

So we gathered him up, took him to the vet, got him cleaned up and welcomed him into our family. He was an old guy, but after all he'd been through he was still very friendly and easy going. We were not sure his name, but since he was so relaxed, we just called him "Buddy"

And it happened that I was the human he assumed ownership of. I'm going to miss him...

Well where ever you are Buddy, I hope it's good, there's lots to eat, places to lay about in the sun and other kitties to hang out with...
