My favorite kind of Friday, one where we get a new Sysinternals Utility - Desktops v1.0

Sysinternals Site Discussion - New Tool: Desktops v1.0; Updates: Autoruns v9.33

"Desktops v1.0: This new utility enables you to create up to four virtual desktops and to use a tray interface or hotkeys to preview what's on each desktop and easily switch between them.

Autoruns v9.33: This Autoruns update adds command-line options for automatically scanning and exporting scan results, as well as a number of bug fixes." [Post leached in full]

TechNet Sysinternals - Desktops v1.0

"Desktops allows you to organize your applications on up to four virtual desktops. Read email on one, browse the web on the second, and do work in your productivity software on the third, without the clutter of the windows you’re not using. After you configure hotkeys for switching desktops, you can create and switch desktops either by clicking on the tray icon to open a desktop preview and switching window, or by using the hotkeys.

Available as a 62k download as well as on live.sysinternals.com.

On my Vista box (i.e. my low end notebook that's "Vista Compatible"), it runs fast and easy. With all four desktops, it's only taking 1.6MB of RAM too (nice!)

Seems to support at  least XP and Vista (i.e. the doesn't list supported OS's but I'm running it on XP and Vista and it seems to be working fine on both... ;)

The only funny thing, one that made me chuckle, is that there's no quit, exit, stop, go the heck away, option. No way to exit the app with End Tasking it. At least not that I could find...

Thanks for the links. Desktops looks pretty good. Funny that there is no way to shut it down though.
